Children’s Discovery Museum Partners with Illinois Art Station on Art Studio Residency
Normal, Ill. – Sept. 12, 2023 – The Children’s Discovery Museum welcomes Illinois Art Station (IAS) staff into its art studio this month, marking the start of a new programming partnership.
Beginning Sept. 12, an IAS staff person will be stationed “in residence” at the third-floor Museum’s Art Studio from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays to support guided and independent art activities. IAS will also curate self-guided art activities for Art Studio visitors throughout the week.
Art has long been a key component of the playful learning landscape at the Children’s Discovery Museum because it inspires creativity, collaboration and imagination.
Museum Executive Director Beth Whisman says, “This partnership is a natural extension of our relationship. We are excited to collaborate with another local organization that aligns so perfectly with our mission and shares our commitment to building community.”
Headquartered just south of the Museum along the Constitution Trail at Vernon Avenue, Illinois Art Station provides young artists and their families from all neighborhoods and backgrounds with transformative experiences in the visual arts, centered on the idea that engaging with art is both educational and empowering.
“Just as the Museum knows the power of play, we understand the lasting developmental impact of early arts exposure and the powerful transformation young artists experience as they use art as a medium to explore themselves, their peers and the world around them,” says Illinois Art Station Executive Director Hannah E. Johnson.
“The Illinois Art Station is excited to formalize its longtime friendship with the Children's Discovery Museum and to make even more space for creative expression and understanding in our communities,” Johnson says.
